The K4 was the Compact Car segment winner in the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study (second overall in the industry) and earned the 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick+. The Impreza did not earn a 2026 Top Safety Pick, though Subaru’s larger models did.
This is the Impreza’s calling card: standard all-wheel drive on every model, which the front-wheel-drive K4 does not offer. The Impreza is hatchback-only, while the K4 gives you a sedan or a hatchback and adds an available 190-horsepower turbo the Impreza cannot match. Choose the Impreza for all-weather traction, the K4 for value, power, and body-style choice.
The K4 carries the longer warranty: 5-year / 60,000-mile basic and 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain, versus the Impreza’s 3-year / 36,000-mile basic and 5-year / 60,000-mile powertrain.
