This is the main decision. The K5 is a larger midsize sedan with more rear-seat and trunk room, starting around $28,000. The Elantra is a compact that starts about $5,000 less, around $23,000, and is easier to park. The K5 offers more performance and traction: a 290-horsepower GT and available all-wheel drive, versus the Elantra’s front-wheel drive and a 201-horsepower N-Line as its sportiest trim. If you want the strongest engine or all-wheel grip, the K5 leads.
The Elantra’s advantage is efficiency: it offers a hybrid that returns excellent mpg, while the K5 is gas only. If maximum fuel economy or the lowest price is the priority, the Elantra makes a strong case; if you want more size and power, the K5 does.
