Because the Sorento and Santa Fe share Hyundai-Kia engineering, they line up closely: both are three-row midsize SUVs that seat up to seven, both offer a turbocharged gas engine and a hybrid, and both carry the same 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The decision usually comes down to price, powertrain choice, styling, and where you buy.

Both offer a strong turbo gas engine (281 horsepower in the Sorento, 277 in the Santa Fe) and a hybrid. The difference is at the top: the Sorento also offers a plug-in hybrid with electric-only driving, while the current Santa Fe does not. If plugging in matters, the Sorento is the one that can.
The Santa Fe’s boxy redesign maximizes headroom and cargo space and has a distinctive look, while the Sorento keeps a more traditional SUV shape. Both offer roomy three rows and large available touchscreens, so styling and packaging preference often decides it. Sitting in both is the best test.
The warranties are identical: 5-year / 60,000-mile basic and 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain for both. Both are US-built too, with the Sorento assembled in West Point, Georgia and the Santa Fe in Montgomery, Alabama.
