Because the Sportage and Tucson share the same Hyundai-Kia platform and much of their engineering, they are more alike than almost any other pair in the class. Both offer gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, both seat five, and both carry the same 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The decision usually comes down to price, styling, towing, and where you buy.

One real difference: the Sportage is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds properly equipped, while the Tucson tops out around 2,000 pounds. If you plan to pull a small trailer or watercraft, the Sportage has the edge. Both offer rugged all-wheel-drive trims for light off-road use.
This is where personal taste decides it. The Sportage and Tucson wear very different sheet metal and cabin designs despite their shared bones, so the best move is to sit in both. Both deliver roomy back seats, generous cargo space, and large available touchscreens.
The warranties are identical on paper: 5-year / 60,000-mile basic and 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain for both. Both are also built in the United States, with the gas Sportage assembled in West Point, Georgia and the Tucson in Montgomery, Alabama.
