The Sportage is the value pick up front, starting around $28,000 versus about $31,900 for the RAV4. Part of that gap is powertrain: the RAV4 is now hybrid-only, while the Sportage still offers a lower-priced gas model. This is the biggest difference. The RAV4 comes only as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, so every version is efficient but none is cheap to start. If you want the lowest entry price, the Sportage gas model is the way in; if you only want a hybrid, both deliver.
